This year’s Eurovision Song Contest is taking place in Basel – and we’re serving up the perfect singing snack: a cheeseboard paying homage to the ESC, feat. Emmentaler AOP! Inspired by musical notes, guitars and the cheering crowds, this board is both an eye-catching treat and a great ‘support act’ for Switzerland’s performance.
Place five long, thin spring onion stalks side by side on a wooden board to form the stave. Finish the stave lines at each end with pretzel sticks and place half a cherry tomato in each of the four corners.
Cut various musical notes – quavers, crotchets, etc. – out of cheese (simply Google what they look like or unleash your creativity) and distribute them across the stave lines.
You can now cut a small guitar out of a flat slice of Emmentaler AOP (e.g. with a knife or a cardboard stencil). To decorate, add a piece of green pepper as a sound hole and adorn the neck with cucumber or spring onion. For even more variety, cut out two banjos, for instance, and finish them off with green pepper – done!
This original ESC-inspired cheeseboard is guaranteed to conjure up a rock-star atmosphere and an entertaining evening until the moment we’re all hoping to hear: ‘And twelve points go to… Switzerland!’
